White water rafting is a great way to see spectacular scenery and to enjoy working as a team to negotiate thrilling rapids. The Kahikatea Outdoor Education Academy is able to offer a range of White Water Rafting experiences and rivers. We have undergone an independent safety audit from Maritime New Zealand, providing you with safety assurance.
Waiohine River (Grade 2)
The Waiohine is the most popular river to raft in the Wairarapa. The river has regular, medium sized waves of less than a metre during most flows. The passage is generally easy to recognise and is usually unobstructed. The views in the Waiohine Gorge are amazing and make this trip a "must do". Minimum age 5yrs (conditions apply)
Mohaka River (Grade 2)
The Mohaka River is 35mins drive from Napier and provides excellent wilderness rafting and sensational trout fishing. The Grade 2 section of this river stretches for more than 40km's and trips can be run as day trips or multi-day expeditions.
Tongariro River (Grade 2)
The Tongariro River is famous for its big, hard fighting trout and sensational rafting. The Grade 2 section of this river flows past the Turangi township and is great for families and fishermen.
Hutt River (Grade 1-2)
The Hutt River flows past Upper Hutt City. Most of the rapids on this section are Grade 1 with a few Grade 2 rapids. There is pleasant scenery along the way and good trout fishing opportunities.
Ruamahunga River (Grade 1-2)
The Ruamahunga River has 4 sections to choose from and is a wide gentle river in the lower sections and provides relaxing rafting and great fishing opportunities. In the upper Mt Bruce Gorge section some of the rapids reach Grade 2 if you are looking for a little more action.
Mohaka River (Grades 3, 4 and 5)
